In a groundbreaking achievement for Oman and the Middle East, the experimental scientific rocket “Duqm-1” was successfully launched on Wednesday. This remarkable event was orchestrated by “Launch,” a subsidiary of the National Space Services Company (NASCOM), under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology. This initiative is part of Oman’s strategic plans to enhance its space sector and position itself as a key player in the global space industry.

Details of the Launch

The launch took place at coordinates 18°N, 56°E, in the southern region of Duqm. The “Duqm-1” rocket, measuring 6.5 meters in length and weighing 123 kilograms (including fuel), achieved an impressive altitude of 140 kilometers above sea level, reaching speeds of 1530 meters per second. The entire flight lasted approximately 15 minutes, successfully hitting its designated target.

His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Amer Al-Shidhani hailed the success of the “Duqm-1” launch, emphasizing its significance in placing Oman on the global space map.
