The Royal Cars Museum of Oman: A Tribute to History and Innovation

Introduction

The Sultanate of Oman officially opened the Royal Automobile Museum at Al-Baraka Palace on December 10, 2024. The museum reflects Oman’s commitment to preserving its cultural and historical heritage, showcasing a remarkable collection of rare and classic automobiles, including vehicles from the royal fleet.

Historical Context

The museum’s foundation dates back to the vision of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who was passionate about automobiles and their historical significance. Over decades, the collection grew to include vehicles ranging from early 20th-century classics to unique, custom-made models. In 2012, a dedicated building was constructed to house these cars, and access was previously limited to official guests.

The current Sultan, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, extended the museum’s purpose by opening it to the public. The initiative aims to:

  • Educate citizens and enthusiasts about the history and evolution of automobiles.
  • Showcase Oman’s role in preserving global automotive heritage.
  • Attract automotive enthusiasts and tourists from around the world.

Exhibits and Features

The museum houses a diverse collection of vehicles, including:
