His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his Japanese counterpart affirmed during a press conference in Muscat the importance of reaching a final agreement and a political solution that would contribute to reducing tensions in the region, intensifying international efforts to ensure freedom of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law, and guaranteeing the smooth flow of maritime transport and energy supplies.
His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs said that economic relations represent an important pillar of the partnership between the two countries, welcoming the growing interest and participation of Japanese companies in the Sultanate of Oman, particularly in the energy sector, renewable and low-carbon technologies, logistics services, and infrastructure.
His Excellency added that the Sultanate of Oman looks forward to a positive outcome from discussions on the free trade agreement between Japan and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, explaining that reaching an agreement would contribute to enhancing bilateral trade and investment, strengthening supply chain security, and achieving mutual benefits for the peoples of the two countries.
His Excellency affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman remains steadfast in its commitment to maritime security and international law, rejecting further escalation or conflict. He stressed that achieving sustainable security in the Strait of Hormuz requires establishing lasting peace in the region through restraint, diplomacy, and continued engagement to address the root causes of instability, including exclusionary policies and non-compliance with international law.
His Excellency further affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman is determined to continue working with Japan and all international partners to support dialogue, justice, and peaceful solutions, noting that partnerships based on trust, realism, and diplomacy are becoming increasingly important amid the uncertainty prevailing in the region and the world.
His Excellency the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Japan and the Sultanate of Oman are working to enhance cooperation across a wide range of fields.
His Excellency expressed his country’s appreciation to the Sultanate of Oman for its stable and long-term supplies of crude oil and liquefied natural gas, affirming the two countries’ determination to strengthen cooperation in clean energy, including the development of the hydrogen and ammonia sectors.
His Excellency stated that Japan is currently working to prepare a comprehensive cooperation plan aimed at enhancing economic resilience and energy security in light of the current situation in the Middle East.
His Excellency said that the situation concerning Iran is entering a very critical phase, expressing his hope for more constructive talks to reduce escalation as soon as possible, ensure freedom of navigation in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, and strengthen coordination between the two countries in this regard.
