His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik concluded a significant three-day state visit to the Netherlands, aimed at enhancing economic collaboration and reinforcing the longstanding friendship between the two nations.

Key Highlights of the Visit

Arrival and Official Reception

On April 14, 2025, Sultan Haitham arrived in the Netherlands, where his aircraft was ceremoniously escorted by Royal Netherlands Air Force jets. The following day, a formal welcome was held at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, hosted by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. The ceremony included national anthems, a guard of honor inspection, and greetings from Omani students and embassy staff.

Strategic Agreements and Economic Partnerships

During the visit, Oman and the Netherlands signed three pivotal agreements:

  1. Hydrogen Export Corridor: A joint development agreement involving 11 companies, including OQ, Hydrom, and Port of Duqm, to establish a green hydrogen export route from Oman to Europe, leveraging renewable energy resources.
  2. Infrastructure Development with Royal Vopak: A partnership to enhance storage facilities and infrastructure in Duqm, positioning it as a central hub for hydrocarbons, chemicals, and low-carbon products.
  3. MoU with Gasunie: An understanding to collaborate on green hydrogen infrastructure development and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies.

Engagements with Business Leaders

Sultan Haitham met with Dutch business leaders and executives to discuss expanding cooperation in sectors such as ports, logistics, maritime trade, chemical industries, renewable energy, agriculture, and education.

Cultural and Academic Collaboration

Emphasizing the importance of cultural and academic exchanges, Sultan Haitham highlighted ongoing student exchange programs and the potential for increased tourism facilitated by new direct flights between the two countries.

Meetings with Dutch Officials

The Sultan held discussions with the Dutch Prime Minister, as well as the Presidents of the Senate and House of Representatives, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing global challenges.

Ceremonial Honors

In a gesture of mutual respect, Sultan Haitham and King Willem-Alexander exchanged prestigious national honors, symbolizing the deep-rooted ties between Oman and the Netherlands.

Joint Statement

A joint statement released at the end of the visit reaffirmed the over 400-year-old relationship between the two nations, emphasizing their commitment to open trade, international dialogue, and addressing global issues collaboratively.
