Omani Student Team Wins Third Place in Prestigious U.S. Engineering Competition with Smart Oil-Change Invention

Muscat – May 2025

An innovative team of Omani university students has achieved international recognition by securing third place in a highly competitive American engineering competition. Their award-winning project: a smart device that revolutionizes the way car engine oil is changed.

The competition, held in the United States and featuring dozens of student teams from around the world, focused on innovation, sustainability, and real-world impact. The Omani team’s invention impressed judges with its practicality, technical sophistication, and potential to simplify vehicle maintenance.

The device, developed by students from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), is designed to automate and monitor the oil change process. Using smart sensors and a mobile app, the system can detect when oil quality has degraded and initiate a safe, efficient oil replacement without the need for professional intervention. It aims to reduce maintenance costs, minimize environmental waste, and enhance engine longevity.

“We wanted to create something that addressed a real need and made car maintenance more accessible,” said [insert team spokesperson name], one of the team leaders. “This recognition proves that innovation from Oman can compete on a global level.”

Judges from the competition praised the team not only for their technical execution but also for the product’s market viability and environmental benefits. The students plan to continue refining the prototype and exploring opportunities for commercialization.

This achievement marks a proud moment for Oman’s growing innovation and engineering sector, showcasing the potential of its youth to lead in sustainable and practical technology solutions on the world stage.
