Muscat – Omani innovator and engineer Mazen bin Rashid Al Badi is emerging as one of the Sultanate’s most promising young technology leaders, showcasing how innovation, entrepreneurship, and artificial intelligence are shaping Oman’s future.
A student of Electrical Engineering at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Shinas, Al Badi has transformed his passion for technology into a series of impactful projects addressing real-world challenges. His achievements reflect the strength of Oman’s supportive innovation environment, which includes government-backed programs, business incubators, accelerators, and modern regulatory frameworks designed to empower entrepreneurs and innovators.
Among his most notable inventions is an AI-powered firefighting robot equipped with thermal sensors capable of detecting and extinguishing fires autonomously. He has also developed “Doctor Robot,” a healthcare innovation aimed at reducing infections within medical facilities and enhancing the safety of healthcare professionals.
In the field of sustainability, Al Badi created a construction waste recycling project that converts waste materials into reusable products such as bricks and asphalt, contributing to environmental protection and the circular economy.
Al Badi’s commitment to research and development extends to postgraduate studies, where he is exploring the use of artificial intelligence and ultrasonic technologies to inspect railway infrastructure and predict maintenance requirements before failures occur. These innovations have the potential to improve operational efficiency, enhance safety, and reduce costs in large-scale engineering projects.
The young innovator believes that artificial intelligence will play a central role in addressing future challenges related to energy, food security, water management, and sustainability. He also advocates adapting global technological advancements to local needs, ensuring alignment with Oman’s culture, language, and societal values.
His efforts have earned him recognition both locally and internationally, including a Silver Medal at Silicon Valley innovation exhibitions in the United States, a Bronze Medal at the ITEX International Invention and Innovation Exhibition in Malaysia, and several national awards for engineering excellence and innovation.
Beyond his personal achievements, Al Badi has trained more than 1,000 participants across Oman through workshops and educational initiatives focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies. Through these efforts, he continues to inspire the next generation of Omani innovators and contribute to the Sultanate’s vision of becoming a regional hub for technology and knowledge-based industries.
