Oman at the Forefront of Maritime Security and Peaceful Navigation

The Sultanate of Oman has renewed its firm commitment to supporting global efforts to protect maritime safety and ensure the security of international shipping routes. The announcement was made during Oman’s participation in a United Nations Security Council high-level meeting titled “Maritime Security: Prevention, Innovation, and International Cooperation to Address Emerging Challenges.”

Oman’s Role in Strengthening Maritime Security

Speaking on behalf of the Sultanate, His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Harib Al Said, First Secretary at Oman’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, emphasized the urgent need for closer regional and international cooperation to address maritime threats and guarantee safe navigation. He also called for ongoing coordination among countries to maintain secure and open sea routes.

A Strategic Hub for Global Trade

Oman underscored the strategic value of its location, overlooking the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor for international trade and a main route for the global transport of oil. The Sultanate’s rich natural resources, favorable geography, and diplomatic approach make it a key partner in global maritime security.

Efforts to Secure Regional Waters

Oman’s statement highlighted national initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety of maritime navigation. A notable diplomatic achievement was Oman’s role in brokering a ceasefire agreement between the United States and the authorities in Sana’a, Yemen, ensuring freedom of passage and smooth shipping operations in the Red Sea.

Vision for Safe and Peaceful Seas

Reaffirming its commitment to peace and stability, Oman pledged to continue supporting UN-led initiatives, fostering innovation, and applying preventive measures to tackle evolving maritime challenges.

Through its proactive diplomacy and dedication to secure sea routes, the Sultanate of Oman remains a trusted player in global maritime safety, protecting vital trade corridors and ensuring the free flow of international commerce.
