Why are we fasting?
While fasting, Muslims are said to feel the unity of the Ummah (community), as they share a purely religious practice away from politics and nationalism. “Fasting also brings out the good in people, as they gather to do good deeds, be kind to the poor and meet their family members,”
Fasting is an act of worship that strengthens the faith among the Muslims. It prevents them from falling into the taboos, or persisting in them, and forms a protective barrier that protects them from pursuing sins and evils. The religiousness achieved by fasting forces the soul to abide by what God Almighty has commanded, and to avoid what he has forbidden, so it protects it from committing what leads to destruction and loss, and avoids exposure to God’s wrath, just as the repetition of fasting year after year renews faith.
