Khasab-Lima-Daba: Weaving a Dream Into Reality

A Long-Awaited Vision Takes Shape: For years, whispers of a road spanning across Musandam’s rugged terrain filled the air, a dream of smooth journeys and closer communities. Today, that dream is transforming into tangible reality with the Khasab-Lima-Daba road project.

Unveiling the Project

This 70-kilometer artery will be a lifeline, weaving its way through three distinct sections:

  • Khasab to Lima: A 19-kilometer stretch bridging the distance between the governorate’s capital and the coastal village of Lima.
  • Lima to Daba: Spanning 43 kilometers, connecting Lima to the vibrant Daba, nestled amidst the mountains.
  • Upgrading Lima’s Existing Road: An 8-kilometer upgrade, ensuring seamless travel within Lima itself.

Embracing the Terrain

The road will boast 11 majestic bridges over valleys and 350 sturdy box culverts, defying the challenging landscape. Upon completion, the journey from Khasab to Lima will be slashed to a breezy 22 minutes, compared to the current two-hour ordeal. Lima to Daba will follow suit, taking a mere 33 minutes, while Khasab to Daba via Lima will be conquered in 55 minutes.

Conquering the Challenges

Musandam’s unforgiving mountains present a formidable obstacle. Cutting through peaks and valleys, the project demands meticulous planning and innovative solutions to prevent landslides. Al Sarooj Construction, a leading Omani company, has been entrusted with this monumental task.

Seeds of a New Era

The road’s impact will go beyond asphalt and bridges. It will stitch together communities, fostering vibrant trade, education, and healthcare access. Tourism will blossom, as visitors flock to explore the region’s breathtaking beauty.

Voices from Lima

The excitement palpable, I journeyed to Lima to hear directly from its residents. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Shehi, his voice echoing the collective hope, shared:

“Life in Lima has been defined by isolation. Traveling to Khasab or Daba was a gamble against the sea, with waves dictating our fate. Now, this road promises to weave a new destiny, one where journeys are swift and reliable, where emergencies get the urgent response they deserve. We eagerly await this transformation, this liberation from the clutches of distance.”

Conclusion

The Khasab-Lima-Daba road is more than just a construction project; it’s a promise kept, a dream woven into reality. It’s a testament to human ingenuity and a beacon of hope for the people of Musandam, paving the way for a brighter, more connected future.
