The Sultanate of Oman is embarking on an ambitious journey to enhance its competitive edge in the global economy. The Ministry of Economy has recently organized a media meeting titled “Towards a Competitive Oman,” aimed at showcasing the nation’s competitive performance and the strategic initiatives designed to elevate Oman’s position on the international competitive map.

Key Initiatives for Improving Competitiveness

The Ministry of Economy has outlined a comprehensive plan to improve 14 critical economic indicators through four dedicated national teams. These teams are focused on monitoring and enhancing the indicators to ensure that Oman remains competitive on the global stage. The ministry is also exploring the possibility of joining the International Institute for Administrative Development, further signaling its commitment to international best practices.

Focus on Business Readiness

Oman is preparing to be included in the World Bank’s “Business Readiness” index by 2025. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to attract foreign investment and stimulate local entrepreneurship, which are crucial for economic diversification and sustainable growth.

Proposed and Implemented Initiatives

To boost competitiveness, the Ministry of Economy has proposed over 100 improvement initiatives across various sectors. More than 80 of these initiatives have already been implemented, demonstrating the ministry’s proactive approach to economic development. Additionally, the ministry has provided over 10 consultations to government entities to ensure that their policies align with the national goals of competitiveness.
