The Rose Season Begins: Al Jabal Al Akhdar Welcomes the Rose Spring Festival 2026

Every spring, the mountains of Al Jabal Al Akhdar burst into color as thousands of roses bloom across its terraced farms.
In 2026, this breathtaking natural event will once again be celebrated with the launch of the Rose Spring Festival on March 30.

Organized by the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, the festival highlights one of the region’s most treasured agricultural products—the famous mountain rose—while also showcasing the area’s cultural heritage and growing tourism appeal.

The Famous Mountain Roses of Oman

The rose season in Al Jabal Al Akhdar attracts visitors from across Oman and beyond. The region’s cool climate and terraced mountain farms create ideal conditions for cultivating a unique variety of roses known for their strong fragrance and delicate beauty.

For generations, local farmers have carefully grown and harvested these roses, preserving traditional agricultural practices that form an essential part of the region’s identity.

Today, these roses are more than just a crop—they are a symbol of local heritage and a source of economic opportunity for the community.

Experiencing Traditional Rose Harvesting and Distillation

One of the most fascinating aspects of the festival is the opportunity to learn about traditional rose harvesting and distillation.

During the harvest season—typically from mid-March until early May—farmers begin picking roses at dawn to preserve their fragrance.

The flowers are then transferred into traditional distillation vessels known locally as “Al-Dehjan,” where they are processed into the famous Omani rose water.
This centuries-old technique has been passed down through generations and remains an essential part of life in the mountain villages.

Cultural Events and Art Inspired by the Rose Season

The festival offers a rich program of cultural and artistic events reflecting the spirit of the region.

  • Traditional Omani performances
  • Folk arts and cultural theater
  • Exhibitions featuring rose-based products

Omani artists will also participate in creative initiatives, producing artworks within the rose farms themselves—capturing the beauty of the blooming season and the surrounding mountain landscapes.

Photography Competitions and Tourism Experiences

Photography enthusiasts and content creators will find countless opportunities to capture the stunning scenery of the rose fields.

Professional photography competitions will be held during the festival to document the beauty of the season, highlight the region’s natural and cultural richness, and encourage creative storytelling.

These initiatives also help promote Al Jabal Al Akhdar as a unique eco-tourism destination.

The Rose Trail: A Unique Mountain Adventure

Among the festival’s highlights is the “Rose Trail Between Villages,” a special sports and tourism event connecting several agricultural villages across the mountain.

Around 400 participants are expected to take part in this scenic route, combining outdoor adventure, exploration of natural landscapes, and insight into traditional farming life.

Supporting Farmers and Promoting Sustainable Tourism

Beyond the celebrations, the festival plays a key role in supporting local farmers and productive families.

  • Showcasing rose-based products
  • Promoting investment in aromatic plants and agriculture

At the same time, the event boosts tourism and economic activity in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah, inviting visitors to experience a destination where natural beauty, agriculture, and cultural heritage come together.
