Joint Statement: Official Visit of President João Lourenço of Angola to Oman

Muscat, Oman – December 21, 2024

At the gracious invitation of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, His Excellency President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço of the Republic of Angola conducted an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman from December 19 to 21, 2024.

During the visit, His Majesty Sultan Haitham and President Lourenço engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Oman and Angola. The two leaders explored ways to enhance cooperation in various fields to serve the mutual interests of both nations.

Key Highlights of the Visit

1. Bilateral Cooperation

  • Commitment to deepening ties in the economic, commercial, and investment sectors.
  • Focus areas included mining, clean energy, technology, tourism, agriculture, food security, transportation, logistics, and ports.

2. New Agreements and Initiatives

  • Negotiations for a comprehensive cooperation agreement covering economic, scientific, technological, and cultural aspects.
  • Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on:
    • Mutual visa exemption for holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports.
    • Political consultations.
    • Agricultural collaboration.

3. Global and Regional Issues

  • Emphasis on respecting international law and the United Nations Charter.
  • Commitment to addressing climate change and promoting global peace and security.

4. Trade and Investment

  • Discussions on fostering trade, encouraging business exchange, and exploring joint ventures.

Acknowledgments and Commendations

His Majesty Sultan Haitham praised President Lourenço’s efforts in promoting peace in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and expressed support for his upcoming role as Chair of the African Union in February 2025. President Lourenço commended Oman’s leadership for its dedication to dialogue and the promotion of global peace and harmony.
