SOHAR Port and Freezone have signed a land lease agreement with Elite Hazardous Waste Management Solution (FZC) to establish a Hazardous Waste Treatment Plant in Sohar Freezone. This agreement represents a significant milestone in the region’s journey towards sustainable waste management and reinforces Sohar Freezone’s position as a premier destination for leading waste management solutions.
With a total investment of US$3.5 million, the plant will cover an area of 10,000 square meters and will adhere to local and international regulations to create a pollution-free environment. The advanced technology and sustainable practices employed by Elite Hazardous Waste Management Solution (FZC) aim to contribute to the circular economy cluster and pave the way towards a greener future.
The plant will have an initial production capacity of 40 tonnes per day, which will eventually increase to 80 tonnes per day within one year. The end products of the treatment process will include heavy oil for utilization in slow-moving machines, as well as low-contamination carbon dust suitable for the cement and road construction industries.
Omar al Mahrizi, CEO of SOHAR Freezone and DCEO of SOHAR Port, emphasized that this agreement strengthens the commitment to sustainable development and supports the circular economy principles outlined in Oman Vision 2040. It highlights the dedication of Elite Hazardous Waste Management Solution (FZC) and SOHAR Port and Freezone towards advancing waste management practices and fostering economic growth in the region.
Overall, this collaboration signifies a significant step forward in waste management practices, ensuring environmental responsibility, and contributing to the sustainable development goals of the region. By attracting investments and employing innovative technologies, SOHAR Port and Freezone aim to lead the way towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
