Oman Shines at Inaugural Athletics Grand Prix in Muscat

Muscat – Oman’s national athletics team delivered an impressive performance at the first edition of the Athletics Grand Prix, held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, securing multiple top finishes and underlining the Sultanate’s growing presence on the international track and field stage.

Organized by the Oman Athletics Association, the event attracted competitors from more than 50 countries, competing across 31 events. The Grand Prix was part of the World Athletics Continental Tour (Bronze Level), offering ranking points and qualification opportunities for major championships.

Omani Athletes Take Center Stage

Oman’s athletes were among the standout performers, claiming several gold medals and podium finishes in front of a home crowd.

In the high jump, Omani athlete Fatek Jaaboub secured first place, outperforming international competitors.

The success continued in the triple jump, where Salem Al-Rawahi delivered another gold medal performance.

In sprinting, Ali Al-Balushi claimed victory in the 100m race, while fellow Omani athlete Mulham Al-Balushi finished third, ensuring a double podium for Oman.

Oman’s national team also impressed in the 100m relay, securing second place in a competitive field.

In the women’s events, Alia Al-Mughairi stood out by winning gold in the high jump, further boosting Oman’s medal tally.

Strong International Competition

Despite Oman’s strong showing, the event featured fierce international competition across all disciplines. Notable winners included Egypt’s Mostafa El-Gamal in the hammer throw, Puerto Rico’s Ryan Sánchez in the 800m, and South Africa’s Mondria Barander in the 110m hurdles.

In women’s events, standout performances came from the UAE’s Fatima Al-Hosani in the discus throw and Canada’s Galaina Weir in the hammer throw, while athletes from Kenya, Singapore, and the Dominican Republic also secured victories in track events.

A Milestone for Omani Athletics

The successful hosting of the Grand Prix marks a significant milestone for athletics in Oman. As part of the World Athletics global circuit, the event enhances Oman’s reputation as a sporting hub.

With strong performances from local athletes and a well-organized international event, Oman’s athletics future looks promising, with this inaugural edition setting the stage for continued success.
