Royal Hospital Localizes Advanced Molecular Tests for Colorectal Cancer
The Royal Hospital has successfully localized advanced molecular tests for colorectal cancer
for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman, marking a significant milestone in cancer diagnostics
and precision medicine.
The newly introduced molecular tests—KRAS, NRAS, and BRAF—
are now conducted locally at the Royal Hospital. This development has significantly reduced
diagnostic waiting times and enhanced the quality of patient care.
Previously, these specialized tests were performed outside the country, with results taking
more than three weeks. With the localization of these services, patients can now receive
accurate diagnostic results within a single working day, allowing oncologists to initiate
targeted treatment plans more quickly and effectively.
This achievement reflects the Ministry of Health’s commitment to strengthening specialized
diagnostic services and expanding the use of precision medicine. It also aligns with
Oman Vision 2040, which emphasizes the localization of advanced medical technologies
and the development of a sustainable, innovation-driven healthcare system.
Medical experts at the Royal Hospital highlighted that the successful localization of these
molecular tests demonstrates the high technical readiness of national laboratories and the
expertise of Omani healthcare professionals. The hospital continues its efforts to introduce
additional advanced diagnostic tests that meet the highest international standards, further
reinforcing Oman’s position in advanced medical care.
