Oman’s ‘Aura’ Pioneers the Future of Solar Energy with Revolutionary Perovskite Solar Cells

Aura, a student startup from Sultan Qaboos University, is making waves as the first company to manufacture perovskite solar cells. Known for their high efficiency, low cost, and flexibility, these cells are also environmentally friendly, aligning with Oman’s vision to adopt solar energy solutions.

According to Noor bint Muhammad Al-Miyahiya, the company’s Public Relations Manager, Aura specializes in the development and production of solar energy solutions, with a particular focus on perovskite technology to boost solar energy efficiency. The company aims to provide clean and efficient energy sources while reducing reliance on traditional solar panels and contributing to both environmental and economic sustainability.

The idea for the company arose after recognizing the challenges faced by traditional solar technologies, such as low conversion efficiency, high production costs, and manufacturing difficulties. After conducting extensive research, the team discovered that perovskite technology offers an innovative and more efficient solution. This led to the establishment of the company to develop this technology and transform it into practical products that meet market needs.

Al-Miyahiya added that there has been a growing interest in their products and concept, especially after presenting a prototype to stakeholders in the field, including companies and organizations looking for clean and effective energy solutions. The company is witnessing a noticeable increase in demand and is working on expanding its services to better meet customer needs.

One of Aura’s key accomplishments includes the development of the first locally produced prototype of perovskite solar cells. The company has participated in several competitions, such as the Oman Achievement and the Scientific Festival, which have helped attract attention from both the public and private sectors as a sustainable energy source.
