Beneath the golden silence of Jabal Shams and within the turquoise whispers of Wadi Bani Khalid, Oman breathes. Her valleys, cliffs, oases, and coastlines are not just places on a map—they are living poems etched by wind and time.
And now, in the summer of 2025, a new story unfolds. Wiki Loves Earth—the global photography movement—returns to Oman, calling on every eye that sees beauty and every hand that holds a camera to capture the soul of the land.
📸 A Global Movement Finds Home in Oman
Wiki Loves Earth is no ordinary competition. It is a worldwide tribute to nature, hosted by Wikimedia, where photographers submit breathtaking images of protected areas—images that live on forever in the digital commons.
In Oman, this movement is more than a contest. It’s a love letter to the land—from the fjords of Musandam to the rose terraces of Jabal Akhdar. Every shot is an act of preservation, every frame a witness to heritage.
From June 12 to July 25, 2025, photographers across the Sultanate can upload their masterpieces to Wikimedia Commons, contributing to a free visual archive that the world can explore and learn from.
🌿 Why It Matters
In a time when digital noise often overshadows natural beauty, Wiki Loves Earth refocuses our lens—literally and metaphorically—on the wonders we must protect. Oman’s wild heart beats in its wadis, deserts, sinkholes, and coastal cliffs. By photographing them, we don’t just document—we defend.
Every entry becomes part of a global mosaic. Your photo of a turtle nesting in Ras Al Jinz might educate a student in Brazil. Your image of the Empty Quarter dunes could inspire a climate scientist in Japan.
🌍 How You Can Join
- Choose your subject: Natural reserves, heritage landscapes, unique ecosystems—like Wadi Tiwi, Al Saleel Nature Park, or the cliffs of Mirbat.
- Take your photos: Or select from your archives—as long as they’re yours and meet the guidelines.
- Upload to Wikimedia Commons under a free license between June 12 and July 25, 2025.
- Join the movement: Your work might be selected for international recognition.
✨ A Journey Worth Taking
Photography, like travel, begins with a single step. In this case, it might be the crunch of gravel under your boots on a hidden trail. Or the silence before sunrise in the desert, waiting for the light to spill across the sand. These are the moments when Oman reveals herself—and you become her storyteller.
This is more than a contest. It is an invitation to see, to feel, and to share. An opportunity to place Oman’s beauty on the world’s canvas—and say, “This is worth remembering. This is worth protecting.”
📢 Join Us. Inspire the World.
Whether you’re a weekend hiker, a drone adventurer, or someone who just loves the gentle play of light on date palms—this is your moment.
Let your lens speak.
Let Oman shine.
Let the Earth be loved.
