The complex, five-hour procedure was conducted on an Omani patient suffering from severe heart failure, making it the first operation of its kind in the country. The transplant showcases Oman’s readiness and skill in executing high-risk, life-saving surgeries locally without international intervention.

A team of Omani cardiac surgeons and specialists collaborated to complete the surgery, demonstrating the nation’s growing independence in specialized medical care.

His Excellency Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, hailed the operation as a reflection of national progress in healthcare development.

“This accomplishment is not merely the result of the efforts of a single medical team, but rather a reflection of a comprehensive national vision realized through the wise leadership, the efficiency of national capabilities, and the spirit of humanitarian service,” said Dr. Al Sabti.

“It also demonstrates the readiness of healthcare workers to carry out medical tasks with high levels of competence and responsibility.”

It signifies a clear step forward in the region’s medical capabilities and reflects the accumulated experience and teamwork of dedicated professionals across various specialties throughout the preparation period.”

A New Era in Organ Transplantation in Oman

This first heart transplant in Oman not only saved a life but also set a new benchmark in the region’s medical field. The success of the operation demonstrates that Oman is capable of performing highly advanced surgeries, previously limited to international institutions.
