Oman Marks International Day of Clean Air: A Renewed Commitment to a Sustainable Environment
September 7 — Environment Authority, Sultanate of Oman
On September 7, the Sultanate of Oman joins the global community in celebrating the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, an annual observance declared by the United Nations to raise awareness about air pollution and the urgent need for collective action to ensure cleaner environments and healthier lives. This year’s theme, “Pursuing Air… Every Breath Matters,” emphasizes that access to clean air is a fundamental human right and that every breath we take is a call to protect human health and safeguard our planet.

A National Vision for Environmental Sustainability

Oman’s participation in this global observance aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which identifies environmental sustainability as a cornerstone of the nation’s comprehensive development strategy. The country continues to translate this commitment into action by strengthening environmental legislation, adopting innovative solutions, and promoting the transition to clean and renewable energy sources.

“Naqi” Platform: A Leap in Air Quality Monitoring

In a landmark step towards transparency and community engagement, the Environment Authority recently launched “Naqi,” a digital platform that provides real-time, interactive data on air quality across Oman’s governorates. This initiative serves as a key tool to raise public awareness and empower individuals and institutions to monitor pollutants such as fine particles and harmful gases, while encouraging actions that help reduce emissions and preserve clean air.

Awareness Campaigns and Community Partnerships

Oman’s efforts extend beyond technical measures, encompassing awareness campaigns across media and social platforms, alongside field activities organized in collaboration with educational institutions and relevant organizations. These initiatives aim to instill a culture of care for air quality, encourage eco-friendly practices, promote sustainable transport, and safeguard green spaces.

A Renewed Commitment to the Future

The Environment Authority underscores that the International Day of Clean Air is more than an annual event—it is a renewed pledge to collective action for a healthier, cleaner environment, and a significant step toward ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come. Oman’s ongoing initiatives highlight its determination to serve as a regional model in environmental protection, fully aligned with its national priorities and international commitments.
