Oman Champions Science for Peace and Sustainable Development

Oman: Empowering Peace and Progress Through Science

Celebrating World Science Day for Peace and Development — November 10

UNESCO’s World Science Day highlights the role of science in building a sustainable and peaceful future. The Sultanate of Oman is actively promoting science, research and international cooperation as tools for progress and harmony.

Commitment to Research and Innovation

Oman’s dedication to science and research is reflected in the strategic vision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the Oman Research and Education Network (OMREN). These bodies collaborate to strengthen national scientific capacity, foster research partnerships, and support researchers working towards the country’s sustainable development goals.

Science Diplomacy and Global Cooperation

By building regional and international partnerships, Oman champions science diplomacy — connecting researchers and institutions across borders to confront global challenges such as climate change, renewable energy, and water sustainability. These efforts underscore the idea that scientific knowledge is both a tool for discovery and a bridge for peace and mutual understanding.

Investing in a Knowledge-Based Future

Oman continues to invest in technology, innovation, and youth-led research as part of its transition to a knowledge-based economy. Prioritising education, research funding and cross-sector collaboration helps nurture talent and drives socially-minded development.

On World Science Day, the Sultanate stands as a beacon: science guided by purpose can unite communities and create a better world for future generations.
