Musandam Winter Season Launches with 75 Cultural and Coastal Adventure Events
Under the theme “Musandam: An Experience to Live,” the northern governorate opens six months of fjord sailing, mountain trails, heritage carnivals, and community markets
Where towering limestone cliffs plunge straight into the emerald currents of the Strait of Hormuz, northern Oman is preparing for its most ambitious winter tourism calendar to date. Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat, and in the presence of Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, the promotional ceremony in Muscat officially launched the 2026–2027 “Musandam Winter” season under the banner “Musandam: An Experience to Live.”
Spanning 75 cultural, sporting, entertainment, and marine events across the governorate’s wilayats and coastal villages, the winter program positions Musandam as a premier cool-season destination for regional and international travelers. Designed around the governorate’s dramatic fjord geography and maritime traditions, the season pairs outdoor adventure with direct economic opportunities for local small and medium enterprises, productive families, and traditional artisans.
Festivals From Khor Sham to Kumzar and Lima
The 2026–2027 calendar anchors each area of the peninsula with signature community gatherings that celebrate Musandam’s coastal identity. Flagship events include the Musandam Carnival, the Strait of Hormuz Festival, and Musandam Cultural Days, which bring folk arts, maritime storytelling, and regional cuisine to the waterfront.
In the northernmost maritime settlements, the Kumzar Festival spotlights the unique linguistic and seafaring customs of one of Oman’s most iconic coastal communities, while the Lima Bazaar creates an open-air marketplace for traditional weavers, potters, and culinary entrepreneurs in the seaside village of Lima. Further south along the western coast, the Bukha Lights Festival illuminates historic fortifications and shorelines with evening installations, complemented by a Kite Festival, a Community Sports Championship, motorsports rallies, and equestrian competitions.
Fjord Sailing, Freediving, and Mountain Ziplines
Beyond its scheduled festivals, the Musandam Winter season highlights the peninsula’s year-round natural amphitheater for outdoor exploration. Visitors can board traditional wooden dhows to sail through the sheltered sea inlets and towering rock corridors of Khor Sham, where resident pods of Indo-Pacific humpback and bottlenose dolphins swim alongside wooden hulls.
For adventure travelers, the program integrates high-altitude and deep-water itineraries across the governorate. Over the past two years, Musandam has expanded its adventure infrastructure—anchored by the record-breaking mountain zipline in Khasab overlooking the fjords—alongside marked mountain trekking trails leading to ancient stone villages, coastal kayaking routes, cliffside camping sites, padel courts, and guided scuba diving and freediving excursions across coral reefs teeming with pelagic marine life.
Decentralizing Tourism Value Under Oman Vision 2040
Speaking at the launch ceremony, officials emphasized that the winter season reflects Oman Vision 2040’s focus on governorate-led economic decentralization. Rather than concentrating tourism infrastructure in a single hub, the 75-event calendar distributes visitor footfall across Khasab, Bukha, Dibba, Madha, Lima, and Kumzar.
By connecting local boat operators, mountain guides, homestay hosts, and craftspeople directly with seasonal visitors, the Musandam Winter program turns natural topography into sustainable household income—inviting travelers to experience the quiet majesty of Oman’s northern fjords alongside the people who have navigated these waters for generations.
