Honoring a Musical Legacy: Omani Oud Hobbyist Association
The DRC Omani Oud Hobbyist Association was founded under the patronage of the late HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said, may he rest in peace. Royal directives issued on 28/11/2005 laid the groundwork for this dedicated association, created to support and nurture the talents of oud enthusiasts in Oman. Sultan Qaboos’s vision aimed to elevate the artistic movement in the country, particularly in oud music, aligning with the government’s ongoing support for various artistic pursuits.
A trailblazer in the Arab region, the DRC Omani Oud Hobbyist Association provided a novel platform for the esteemed art of oud. This exceptional instrument with its distinct artistic character had captivated the hearts of numerous singers and poets, and it held a special place as the instrument of choice for royalty, filling its players with pride.
The Omani Oud Hobbyist Association was officially inaugurated on 02/11/2008 in South Al Hail Region, affiliated with Seeb province. The association’s location near Sultan Qaboos Street (Main Street) symbolizes the profound impact of Sultan Qaboos’s legacy on the arts and culture of Oman. May his memory forever be cherished and his vision for artistic enrichment continue to thrive through this esteemed association.
