His Majesty Sultan Haitham Welcomes Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on State Visit to Oman
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq—may God protect him—was at the forefront of those receiving his brother, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, for a two-day state visit to Oman.
The plane carrying His Highness Sheikh Tamim was accompanied, upon entering Omani airspace, by a squadron of military aircraft from the Royal Air Force of Oman. The aircraft escorted the Emir’s plane until its arrival at the Royal Private Airport, where His Highness was warmly welcomed as the esteemed guest.
After the arrival, His Majesty the Sultan and His Highness the Emir proceeded to the hall, passing between two rows of the Guard of Honour from the Royal Guard of Oman. Following a brief break, the motorcade carrying the two leaders departed the Royal Airport, heading to Al Alam Palace.
A Grand Reception
A grand popular and official reception was held in honor of His Highness Sheikh Tamim. As the procession passed through Muscat Gate, a group of the Royal Camel Corps lined both sides of the road, welcoming the Emir. The procession was then accompanied by the Royal Cavalry and the Royal Guard of Oman Cavalry, along with military music, as it made its way to the National Museum building.
Celebration at Al Alam Palace
Upon arriving at Al Alam Palace, a grand popular reception awaited. Folk art groups, including the Al Ayala art group, performed traditional chants and songs to welcome the honored guest. In addition, artillery fired a 21-gun salute in honor of His Highness Sheikh Tamim.
As the procession entered the inner courtyard of Al Alam Palace, a ceremonial trumpet sounded, followed by a special musical piece. His Majesty Sultan Haitham then escorted His Highness Sheikh Tamim to the podium of honor, where the national anthem of Qatar was played.
Diplomatic Greetings
Following the formalities, His Majesty the Sultan greeted the official Qatari delegation accompanying His Highness Sheikh Tamim, while the Emir exchanged greetings with the Omani officials present. This marked the beginning of a two-day state visit filled with opportunities for enhancing the strong ties between Oman and Qatar.
