In a remarkable move towards agricultural innovation, the General Directorate of Agricultural, Fishery, and Water Resources in Dhofar Governorate has embarked on an ambitious ginger cultivation project in the Wilayats of Rakhyout and Dhalkut. Launched in June 2024, this initiative is not just about growing a spice; it’s about nurturing economic growth and community resilience.

A Strategic Agricultural Shift

The project, supported by the Agricultural and Fishery Development Fund, is designed to span 8 to 9 months, with the first harvest expected in February 2025. With 30 farmers already engaged and an estimated yield of 20 to 30 tons, this venture is poised to make a significant impact. The distribution of supported ginger rhizomes to 60 farmers over the next two years underscores the commitment to fostering local agriculture.

One of the key goals of this initiative is to empower farmers by providing technical support and guidance on modern farming practices, including land preparation and irrigation systems.
