Civil Aviation Authority Showcases Strategic Achievements at Annual Media Meeting

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) held its annual media meeting, highlighting a series of significant achievements and future-forward initiatives that reinforce Oman’s position as a leading regional and international hub for aviation and meteorological excellence.

The event, held under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Information, served as a platform to celebrate the Authority’s progress across operational, technical, legislative, and financial domains. His Excellency inaugurated the updated version of the CAA’s official website, the enhanced smartphone application for Oman Meteorology, and a commemorative postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the Sultanate of Oman’s accession to the World Meteorological Organization.

Aviation Safety and Operational Advancements

The Authority proudly reported a 95.95% compliance rate in aviation safety, earning Oman a prestigious fifth-place global ranking in the compliance index for effective aviation safety oversight.

113 electronic services were re-engineered, and key projects were implemented, including the upgrade of the Oman Numerical Forecasting System and a new wadi flood index model.

In 2024, the CAA issued operating permits to 19 foreign airlines and approved cybersecurity and civil aviation security policies. Operational manuals were activated for Duqm and Marmul airports, and a new air navigation radar was launched in Jalan Bani Bu Ali, significantly enhancing air traffic control.

Passenger traffic increased by 2% with more than 120,000 flights recorded, while air cargo exceeded 150,000 tons. Oman’s airspace saw 540,300 aircraft pass through in 2024, marking a 14% increase from the previous year.

Meteorological Developments and Financial Success

The Authority expanded its meteorological monitoring network by operating two new stations, bringing the national total to 80. These developments aim to enhance weather forecasting and risk management across the Sultanate.

Financially, the Authority reported revenues of OMR 105 million in 2024, showcasing operational efficiency and sustainable financial performance.

Oman also made notable progress in the Universal Aviation Security Audit Programme, thanks to a proactive, continuous monitoring strategy.

The Civil Aviation Authority reaffirmed its commitment to a strategic vision built on sustainability, digital transformation, and global integration. By modernizing infrastructure and services, the CAA aims to further elevate Oman’s global standing in aviation and meteorology.

The media meeting concluded with a pledge to support national development goals and enhance Oman’s competitiveness through innovation, excellence, and safety in aviation.
