Thumrait Wheat Harvest Field Day Highlights Oman’s Agricultural Growth and Food Security Goals

Thumrait, Dhofar – April 15, 2026 – The Wilayat of Thumrait in Dhofar Governorate witnessed the organization of a wheat harvest field day in the Al Najd agricultural area, marking a key milestone in the 2025/2026 agricultural season. The event reflects Oman’s strategic efforts to expand wheat cultivation and strengthen national food security.

The current wheat season in Al Najd highlights a diverse range of crop varieties, including improved strains such as Najd 1 and Najd 2, Australian wheat, and locally adapted types like Qaryat110, Qaryat 226, and Qaryat 308. These varieties have demonstrated strong efficiency and resilience in adapting to the region’s environmental conditions.

Harvesting activities are expected to continue over the next two months, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. The ministry is facilitating the process by providing modern harvesting equipment, deploying technical teams for field supervision, and coordinating with Oman Flour Mills Company to ensure smooth collection and processing of the harvest.

The Al Najd agricultural project stands as a major national initiative aimed at boosting local wheat production, enhancing sustainable farming practices, and improving the efficient use of natural resources. It also aligns with Oman’s broader vision of achieving greater self-sufficiency in food production and reinforcing long-term food security.

This initiative underscores the Sultanate’s commitment to developing its agricultural sector as a key pillar of economic diversification and sustainability under Oman Vision 2040.
