Macron Praises Oman’s Mediation as Detained French Nationals Are Freed from Iran

Muscat / Paris – French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for its key role in securing the release of two French nationals who had been detained in Iran for over three years.

The individuals, Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, have now been freed and are on their way back to French territory, according to the French president.

In an official statement, Macron described the development as a moment of relief.

“Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris are free and on their way to French territory, after three and a half years of detention in Iran. This is a relief for all of us, and especially for their families.”

Macron also highlighted the diplomatic efforts that made their release possible, specifically acknowledging Oman’s role as a mediator.

“I thank the Omani authorities for their mediation efforts, as well as the state services and citizens who worked tirelessly and contributed to their return.”

Oman has long played a quiet but influential role in regional diplomacy, often acting as a bridge between nations during sensitive negotiations.

The release marks a significant diplomatic success and brings an end to a prolonged period of uncertainty for the detainees and their families.
