Karwa Motors Transforms Oman’s Manufacturing Landscape with Duqm Expansion

Karwa Motors, a prominent automotive manufacturer, is set to make a significant move in the Sultanate of Oman by transferring its armored vehicle manufacturing operations to the Duqm Special Economic Zone. In a recent announcement, the company, a subsidiary of the Oman Investment Authority, unveiled a cooperation and manufacturing services agreement signed with Taj Duqm Company. This strategic collaboration is part of Karwa Motors’ broader vision to diversify its production lines and contribute to the economic development of the region.

Strengthening Local Industry and Fostering Growth

Dr. Ibrahim Al Balushi, CEO of Karwa Motors, emphasized the importance of this agreement in line with the company’s strategy. He noted that diversifying production capabilities and leveraging available manufacturing expertise were key drivers behind this move. Furthermore, it highlights Karwa Motors’ commitment to fortifying the local industry, expanding its presence in regional and international markets, and boosting commercial activity within the Duqm Special Economic Zone.

Dr. Al Balushi expressed his gratitude towards several entities for their support in advancing Karwa Motors’ strategy. He commended the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones for their role in attracting investments to the region and providing the means for its continued success. He also acknowledged the Oman Investment Authority and Qatar Transport Company for their unwavering support, which has been instrumental in Karwa Motors’ journey to strengthen the vehicle manufacturing sector not only in Oman but across the broader region.

A Boost to Manufacturing Capabilities

Under this agreement, Karwa Motors, a joint venture between the State of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman, will establish a dedicated production line for armored vehicles. This expansion will capitalize on the company’s existing capabilities and state-of-the-art equipment.

Karwa Motors has gained recognition for its bus manufacturing endeavors, producing approximately 600 buses annually. Since commencing production in 2021, the company has focused on manufacturing buses for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Their product range encompasses city buses, school buses, long-distance vehicles, and luxury buses. The company’s factory, situated within the Duqm Special Economic Zone, features cutting-edge technologies and various production workshops, maintenance facilities, warehouses, administration buildings, and more.

A Strategic Move for Economic Development

The collaboration between Karwa Motors and Taj Duqm represents a significant step towards expanding the manufacturing sector in Oman. It is poised to contribute substantially to the economic growth and localization of the industry. By combining Karwa Motors’ manufacturing expertise with the strategic location and resources of the Duqm Special Economic Zone, this partnership is expected to foster increased investments and further elevate the region’s industrial landscape.

As Karwa Motors makes its transition into producing armored vehicles, it not only strengthens its position as a key player in the automotive industry but also bolsters Oman’s position as an attractive destination for industrial development and innovation. This collaboration is a testament to the company’s commitment to progress, regional cooperation, and economic diversification.
