On 8.10.2024, the project secured a substantial funding of $1.5 billion from Omani and Emirati banks, along with contributions from regional and international financial institutions. The total estimated value of the project stands at $2.5 billion, marking it as a significant investment in the region’s infrastructure.

Key Features of the Railway

Length and Structure
  • Total Length: 238 km
  • Bridges: The project includes 60 bridges, some of which reach 34 meters in height and extend over a distance of 2.5 km.
Connectivity

The railway will link:

  • Five Major Ports
  • Industrial Centers
  • Numerous Free Zones across Oman and the UAE

This extensive network is designed to facilitate smoother logistics and promote trade between the two nations.

Economic Impact

Freight Capacity

The train service is expected to transport over 15,000 tons of goods, equivalent to 270 standard containers. This capacity will significantly enhance the efficiency of goods movement between the two countries.

Reduced Travel Times
  • Sohar to Abu Dhabi: Travel time will be reduced to just 100 minutes.
  • Sohar to Al Ain: The journey will take only 47 minutes.

This reduction in travel time will not only streamline logistics but also promote tourism and personal travel between the two nations.

Speed and Passenger Services

Train Speeds
  • Freight Train: Maximum speed of 120 km/h.
  • Passenger Train: Maximum speed of 200 km/h, with a capacity to accommodate 400 passengers.

These speeds are designed to ensure a fast and efficient service, making rail travel a competitive option compared to other modes of transport.
