A Milestone in Omani-Russian Cultural Cooperation
In his speech, His Excellency Jamal bin Hassan Al-Moosawi, Secretary-General of the National Museum, emphasized the significance of this initiative: “The launch of the Russian-language website aligns with the Russian Seasons in Oman and forms part of ongoing engagements with cultural and museum institutions in Russia. It also coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two nations. The National Museum is proud to be the first government entity in Oman to launch a website in Russian and the first museum in the Arab world and the Middle East to do so. This initiative underscores our dedication to enhancing cultural collaboration and promoting Oman’s cultural tourism to Russian-speaking audiences, allowing them to explore our history, civilization, and heritage.”
Showcasing Strong Cultural Ties
The event featured a visual presentation highlighting the National Museum’s longstanding cooperation with Russian cultural institutions. Attendees also participated in a special tour of the second exhibition in the “Hermitage Museum Corner” initiative, titled: “Gifts of the Emirs of Bukhara and the Khans of Central Asia to the Russian Imperial Court.” This exclusive exhibition showcases a unique collection of luxury artifacts crafted in Bukhara, Khiva, Khwarazm, and Kokand during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, offering visitors an opportunity to appreciate the region’s exquisite craftsmanship and historical significance.
A Digital Bridge for Global Cultural Engagement
The launch of the Russian-language website serves as a gateway for Russian-speaking tourists and residents to explore Oman’s rich cultural heritage. It plays a crucial role in enhancing cultural and museum tourism, offering insight into the Museum’s exhibitions, events, and activities. Notably, the Russian version marks the fourth language available on the National Museum’s website, following Arabic, English, and Chinese. Through its multilingual platform, the Museum aims to provide global access to Oman’s cultural content, fostering deeper cross-cultural connections and ensuring a more inclusive digital presence.
