Muscat Approves Starlink for Satellite Internet Services

Muscat, March 27 (ONA) – The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in Oman has granted approval for Starlink Muscat to launch broadband internet services using satellite communication systems.

What is Starlink?

Starlink operates through low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites, providing high-speed broadband access to remote areas where traditional internet infrastructure is limited. This technology aims to bridge the digital divide by offering reliable internet with speeds reaching up to 100 Mbps.

Comprehensive Coverage Across Oman

Starlink Muscat’s services will be available nationwide, including rural and hard-to-reach areas. In addition to providing high-speed connectivity, the service will offer innovative solutions for telecom tower connections in challenging terrains.

This initiative will accelerate Oman’s digital transformation and benefit key industries such as oil & gas, mining, tourism, and agriculture.

How Will This Benefit Oman?

  • ✅ Increased Competition among licensed telecom providers
  • ✅ Better Service Quality & Speed for consumers
  • ✅ Enhanced Digital Infrastructure for businesses and individuals
  • ✅ Reliable Connectivity for Economic Sectors

Who Can Access Starlink in Oman?

The service is available to both individuals and businesses seeking high-speed internet connectivity.

Regulatory Background

On June 20, 2023, a Royal Decree (No. 42/2023) was issued, granting Starlink Muscat a Category 1 License to establish and operate a satellite communication system for public fixed-line telecommunications.

With Starlink’s arrival, Oman is set to experience a new era of connectivity, ensuring fast, reliable, and accessible internet for all. This move aligns with the country’s vision for digital transformation and economic growth.
