Oman actively participates in the global observance of the International Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30th each year. The country has implemented specialized legislation, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law, to combat human trafficking. Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al-Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons, expressed Oman’s dedication to fighting this crime and emphasized the need for regional and international cooperation. Oman has consistently made efforts to combat human trafficking, prioritizing justice, equality, and the security of its citizens and residents. Oman has established a shelter called “Dar Al-Wafa” to support victims of human trafficking.

Judge Hatem Ali, the UN representative for Gulf Cooperation Council countries, praised Oman’s efforts in combating human trafficking. These efforts include developing a national action plan, enhancing law enforcement capabilities, and providing comprehensive support services to victims.

Oman’s commitment to combating human trafficking is evident through the implementation of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law. This legislation criminalizes all forms of trafficking, including recruitment, transportation, and exploitation of individuals for forced labor, sexual exploitation, or organ trafficking. The law also ensures the protection of victims and witnesses, encouraging them to come forward without fear of reprisals.

Under the leadership of Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al-Harthy, Oman has taken significant steps to raise awareness about human trafficking and promote cooperation at both regional and international levels. The National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons, chaired by Sheikh Khalifa, plays a crucial role in coordinating efforts among various government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international partners.

Oman’s collaboration with the United Nations and other international organizations has further strengthened its fight against human trafficking. The country actively participates in global initiatives, such as the Blue Heart Campaign, which aims to raise awareness and mobilize support to combat human trafficking. By engaging in these efforts, Oman demonstrates its commitment to global cooperation and the shared responsibility of eradicating this heinous crime.
One notable achievement in Oman’s fight against human trafficking is the establishment of “Dar Al-Wafa,” a shelter dedicated to supporting victims. This facility provides a safe and secure environment for survivors, offering them medical, psychological, and legal assistance. Additionally, vocational training programs and educational opportunities are provided to help survivors reintegrate into society and rebuild their lives.

The recognition and commendation of Oman’s efforts by Judge Hatem Ali, the UN representative for Gulf Cooperation Council countries, highlight the country’s significant progress. Oman’s comprehensive approach to combating human trafficking, encompassing prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnership, serves as a model for other nations.
However, despite these commendable efforts, challenges persist in the fight against human trafficking. Oman continues to face the complexities associated with transnational organized crime, porous borders, and the clandestine nature of trafficking networks. To address these challenges, Oman must continue to invest in capacity-building initiatives, strengthen cross-border cooperation, and enhance international collaboration.

As the world observes the International Day against Trafficking in Persons, Oman’s commitment to combating human trafficking serves as a beacon of hope. The Sultanate’s dedication to justice, equality, and the security of its citizens and residents underscores its determination to protect the most vulnerable members of society. Through its legislative measures, awareness campaigns, and comprehensive support.
