Omani Workforce Thrives in Booming Tourism Sector

The Omani tourism sector is experiencing a surge in growth, and with it, a growing demand for skilled Omani workers. As of October 2023, over 16,799 Omanis are employed in private sector tourism establishments, alongside over 23,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the industry.

Factors Fueling Growth

  • Competitive Benefits and Opportunities: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism offers programs like “Riyadah” to support SMEs and initiatives that encourage entrepreneurship and empower local communities.
  • Comprehensive Training Programs: The Ministry collaborates with various entities to develop and implement training programs like the subsidized tourist guide program and the museum guide program.
  • Regulated Labor Market: The Ministry actively regulates the tourism labor market and ensures compliance with professional standards, including standardized job titles and a replacement and localization plan.

Tangible Results

The recent job fair organized by the Ministry saw 156 job opportunities offered to graduates of the College of Oman for Tourism. Additionally, the Ministry’s collaboration with the College to offer specialized training programs has resulted in the successful training of 100 Omani tourist guides.

A Bright Future

With continued commitment to developing a skilled and empowered workforce, the Omani tourism sector is poised to reach even greater heights, contributing significantly to the national economy and creating exciting opportunities for Omani citizens.
