Education has long been a cornerstone of national development in Oman. The country’s leadership has repeatedly demonstrated its dedication to nurturing future generations through direct engagement with schools and academic institutions. These royal visits not only inspire students and motivate teachers, they also provide useful insight into the evolving needs of the educational system.

Sultan Qaboos bin Said: A Legacy of Knowledge

The late Sultan Qaboos bin Said placed education at the heart of Oman’s modernization. His visits to schools and higher education institutions, including Sultan Qaboos University, reflected a vision of building a knowledge-based society. By emphasizing higher education, research and lifelong learning, Sultan Qaboos helped establish the foundations for sustained educational progress across the Sultanate.

Sultan Haitham bin Tarik: Continuing the Vision

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has continued this tradition with a forward-looking focus on innovation and digital learning. In November 2024, His Majesty visited Sultan Faisal bin Turki School for Boys in Al Amerat, Muscat Governorate, where he engaged with students and educators and highlighted the importance of modern educational programs and the integration of technology in classrooms. Such engagements reflect Oman’s commitment to preparing students for an increasingly digital and interconnected world.

Her Highness Sayyida Ahad bint Abdullah Al Busaidiyah: Empowering Young Women

Her Highness Sayyida Ahad bint Abdullah Al Busaidiyah has also played an active role in advancing education, particularly for girls and young women. On October 17, 2024, she visited Jawharat Muscat Basic Education School for Girls in Seeb, attending a class, touring the science laboratory, and meeting with teachers and students. Her visit reaffirmed the importance of equal opportunities in education and the empowerment of young women through academic and extracurricular support.

Inspiring a Generation

These royal visits go beyond ceremonial appearances. They represent a hands-on, engaged leadership approach that encourages academic excellence, innovation and social development. By taking an active role in the educational journey of Oman’s youth, the nation’s leaders continue to reinforce schools as hubs of knowledge, creativity, and national growth.
