His Majesty Sultan Haitham Presides Over Supreme Judicial Council Meeting
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al-Mu’azzam—may Allah protect and preserve him—presided over a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council this morning at Al-Baraka Palace.
At the beginning of the meeting, His Majesty emphasized the fundamental role of the judiciary in achieving justice and upholding the principles of the rule of law. He highlighted the importance of modernizing the justice system to align with contemporary needs, the aspirations of citizens, and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
His Majesty—may Allah bless him—also stressed the need to ensure prompt justice by expediting litigation processes, reducing case durations, and avoiding case backlogs. He underscored the significance of developing the digital infrastructure of the judicial sector to support swift justice and enhance transparency. In this regard, His Majesty commended the Supreme Judicial Council’s Strategy 2024–2040 and emphasized the importance of implementing its operational plans. He expressed his satisfaction with the remarkable advancements in the judiciary, which have met the expectations of citizens, residents, and investors through the provision of high-quality judicial services utilizing modern technologies.
His Majesty—may Allah support him—praised the efforts of the members of the Supreme Judicial Council, including judges, public prosecutors, legal writers, and all employees, for their dedication and integrity in performing their duties. He directed an intensification of training and qualification programs for judges, public prosecutors, and council staff to ensure they remain abreast of legal and technological developments. His Majesty also stressed the importance of continually enhancing the council with specialized judicial personnel.
As part of His Majesty’s commitment to advancing the investment sector and improving the investment environment in the Sultanate of Oman, he issued royal directives to complete the establishment of the Investment and Commercial Court. This court aims to resolve investment and commercial disputes in a swift, professional, and effective manner. His Majesty—may Allah bless him—explained that this step is part of Oman’s vision to enhance the investment environment and attract capital by providing specialized judiciary services that support business growth and protect litigants’ rights.
Furthermore, His Majesty—may Allah support him—issued directives to finalize the organizational structure of the Supreme Judicial Council to enable the council to provide high-quality judicial services that enhance trust in the rule of law.
At the conclusion of the meeting, His Majesty the Sultan—may Allah protect and preserve him—reaffirmed his full support for judicial independence, recognizing its role in fostering stability and achieving sustainable development. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among the various state institutions to realize a comprehensive national vision for justice.
