Muscat: Future Fund Oman, a strategic arm of the Oman Investment Authority, has committed OMR 671 million to 248 projects since its inception. This capital injection has unlocked a total investment volume of OMR 1.853 billion, driving national economic diversification, local supply chain development, and technology transfers.
The fund’s performance highlights a dual focus on commercial returns and developmental impact. To date, the fund has generated OMR 240 million in local content value and supported the creation of 1,883 direct jobs. An additional 4,450 jobs are planned as current projects scale up operations.
Strategic local and global partnerships
The fund’s investment model relies on partnership with private sector operators and foreign investors. It has backed six international investment funds with OMR 252.1 million out of a total value of OMR 454.2 million. These partnerships target sectors aligned with Oman Vision 2040, including renewable energy, healthcare, and logistics.
Key initiatives include a OMR 77 million energy transition fund, the first of its kind in Oman, and a OMR 77 million technology and green energy fund established in cooperation with IDG Capital. The fund has also invested in XCyber, the international cybersecurity arm of QAX, and allocated OMR 3.9 million to Alma Pet Food Manufacturing.
Furthermore, the fund has set aside OMR 200 million, representing ten percent of its total size, to support Omani startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) holding the Riyada card. This allocation ensures that local entrepreneurs have access to early-stage capital, helping Omani businesses scale into regional markets.
Long-term industrial and human capital growth
Major projects backed by the fund include the United Solar facility, which holds a OMR 33 million commitment for local value addition by 2030. The project is expected to create over 1,500 jobs and includes dedicated annual training budgets for Omani engineers and technicians.
By building integrated industrial clusters and backing localized manufacturing, such as polysilicon and solar panels, the fund aims to establish Oman as a regional green industry hub. It ensures that foreign investment translates directly into technology sharing, skill building, and long-term economic resilience.
