From Oman to Oxford: Saif Al Nabhani, 20, Graduates Top of His Class

At just 20 years old, Saif Khalid Al Nabhani has achieved a milestone that few can claim — graduating at the top of his class in Artificial Intelligence from Oxford Brookes University, UK. His exceptional performance earned him the School of Engineering, Computing & Mathematics Student Award, along with the honor of being named Valedictorian at his graduation ceremony.

An Omani Journey Across Continents

Born and raised in Oman and originally from the historic town of Nizwa, Saif’s educational journey has taken him across continents and cultures. From an early age, he was immersed in a multicultural environment that shaped his worldview and academic ambition.

His family first moved to Canada, where he completed his primary and middle school education while his father pursued a PhD. Later, due to his father’s professional commitments, the family relocated to Scotland, UK, where Saif completed his high school studies, undertaking Scottish Highers (A-Levels).

These international experiences exposed him to diverse education systems and ways of thinking — cultivating in him both adaptability and a passion for lifelong learning.

A Passion for Artificial Intelligence

“I’ve always been drawn to knowledge,” Saif shares. “And I’ve been particularly fascinated by the potential of AI.”

That fascination soon became a purpose. After completing high school, Saif developed a deep interest in Artificial Intelligence, recognizing its growing impact across industries and daily life.

“I was convinced that AI would play a vital role in shaping the future. It was already beginning to dominate fields like healthcare, transportation, economics, and even our homes. I knew it was where I wanted to be.”

Excellence at Oxford

Determined to pursue this vision, Saif enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence program at Oxford Brookes University — one of the first UK institutions to offer this specialized degree.

The journey was rigorous. Over three years, Saif mastered challenging areas such as machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, computer vision, and programming. His hard work paid off:

  • Graduated with First Class Honours (GPA 4.00/4.00)
  • Ranked Top of His Faculty in the School of Engineering, Computing & Mathematics
  • Received the Best Performing Student Award in his course
  • Delivered the Valedictorian Speech at graduation
  • Had his final-year project selected among the top at the University’s Tech Show

In recognition of his achievements, Saif was awarded the British Scholarship Oman (BSO) by the British Embassy in Muscat to pursue his Master’s degree in Oxford.

“I’m deeply grateful for the support of my family, my professors, and to Her Excellency Dr. Liane Saunders, the UK Ambassador to Oman, for her handwritten letter congratulating me on winning the BSO scholarship.”

A Graduation to Remember

Reflecting on his graduation, Saif describes it as one of the most meaningful moments of his life.

“It wasn’t just a celebration — it was a turning point. All the long nights and challenges faded the moment I wore my graduation gown.”

As one of the top graduates, Saif received his gown in the section reserved for university leadership, then joined the Vice Chancellor and Academic Board on stage — a tradition reserved for the highest achievers. His family, seated in the front row, shared in the proud moment.

“Being seated next to the Vice Chancellor wasn’t just an academic honor — it was a message. A message that hard work is seen, recognized, and deeply respected. That moment wasn’t mine alone — it belonged to my dear family, to everyone who supported me, and to Oman.”

Looking Ahead: Giving Back to Oman

Now returning home equipped with advanced knowledge and experience, Saif aims to contribute to Oman Vision 2040 by supporting national efforts in AI and emerging technologies.

His goal is to help drive sustainable progress in sectors such as health, security, economy, and digital government transformation, applying innovative, AI-driven solutions to national challenges.

A Message for Young Omanis

“My message to young Omanis is this: passion and knowledge are the keys to excellence. The journey may not be easy, but great things are never achieved by wishing — they are earned with effort.”

He continues, quoting a line that has guided him throughout his journey:

“What seems unreachable to many becomes possible when determination leads the way.”

Saif emphasizes that success is never a solo mission — it’s built on the support of family, mentors, and community.

“Yesterday, it was someone else. Today, it’s me. Tomorrow, it’s you. The future belongs to those who believe in their potential — and work to unlock it. I hope my journey inspires others to explore what they’re capable of, especially in fields like science, technology, and AI, to contribute to Oman’s future.”
