Overview of Grand Prix in Athletics
Grand Prix competitions in athletics are internationally recognized track and field meetings that bring together elite athletes from around the world.
These events include sprint races such as 100m, 200m, and 400m, middle-distance events like 800m and 1500m, and field events such as long jump,
discus throw, hammer throw, and javelin throw. They form a global series held across multiple countries throughout the season.
The series began in 1985 as the first truly professional global circuit in athletics. In its inaugural season, 632 athletes from 42 countries competed
across 15 meetings in 13 countries, with seven world records set. The system is based on a points ranking format, where athletes earn points according
to their placements, and the top-ranked athletes qualify for the Grand Prix Final at the end of the season.
