Duqm’s OMR 55 Million Power Play: Six Projects, One Clear Message—Oman’s Future Is Being Built Here

Muscat – Duqm is no longer just a promise on the horizon—it is fast becoming the beating industrial heart of Oman. In a powerful display of investor confidence, the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) has secured six major projects worth a combined OMR 55.08 million, spanning food security, fisheries, recycling, and commercial services.

The agreements, signed under the umbrella of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), mark a decisive step in Oman’s Vision 2040 economic diversification drive.

Feeding the Nation: An OMR 40 Million Anchor Project

The crown jewel of the package is the Al Jazir Feed Factory, a massive OMR 40 million investment dedicated to producing shrimp feed. Spanning approximately 88,000 square metres, the facility will feature production lines, raw material storage, quality control, and packaging infrastructure to support an integrated shrimp farming project. This single project accounts for the vast majority of the total investment value in Duqm and signals a serious commitment to building a self-reliant aquaculture value chain.

Securing the Meat Supply

Complementing the feed project is an OMR 4 million quarantine facility for imported livestock, developed by Al Karkh Trading. Covering more than 526,000 square metres, the facility will provide a steady supply of red meat to the local market, strengthening Oman’s food security architecture.

Turning the Sea into Gold

Duqm’s strategic coastal location is being leveraged to the fullest with two major fisheries projects. Muscat Changming Investment is establishing a fish canning plant with an investment of OMR 5.36 million, featuring two processing lines capable of handling 40 to 60 tonnes of fresh fish per day.

Meanwhile, Al Sawari International Investment will build a processing and drying facility for tuna and squid, valued at OMR 3.6 million, with an annual processing capacity of up to 10,000 tonnes. The company is explicitly banking on Duqm’s connectivity to international shipping lanes to reach global markets.

Closing the Loop: Recycling and Services

In a nod to sustainability, Smart Road Investment is investing OMR 1.92 million in a refinery to recycle used oils and petroleum waste, supporting the circular economy within the industrial zone. Finally, Easy Solutions Technology rounds out the package with a commercial and residential building valued at OMR 200,000, adding to the liveable infrastructure Duqm needs as its workforce grows.

A Clear Message from the Top

Eng. Ahmed Ali Ak’aak, CEO of Duqm Special Economic Zone, emphasized that these agreements reflect the diversity of opportunities the zone offers. He noted that the projects will enhance value addition to local resources, develop supply chains, and leverage Duqm’s integrated infrastructure and strategic location.

The signing is part of a broader national push—OPAZ announced 28 investment agreements worth over OMR 304 million across Oman’s economic zones on the same occasion, with Duqm’s OMR 55.08 million share representing a significant slice of the total.

The Bottom Line

For investors and observers alike, the message is unmistakable: Duqm is open for business, and the money is flowing into sectors that matter—food, resources, and sustainability. With OMR 55 million committed and the projects moving forward, Oman’s flagship economic zone is demonstrating its potential to turn strategic vision into investment agreements.
