Historic Gold Medal for Oman at Grand Prix Taekwondo Championship
Majan Taekwondo Academy participated as part of the delegation of the national team in the 8-star Grand Prix Championship for the junior and youth categories, which was held in the Republic of Estonia, with the wide participation of the most prominent international teams in Taekwondo.
The national team player, Al-Muhannad Tawfiq Al-Balushi, achieved a historic achievement by crowning the first gold medal in the history of the Sultanate within this category, in the youth category weighing -45 kg, led by the coach of the national team, Captain Adel Khalifa Al-Wahibi.
Al-Muhannad’s March in the Tournament:
- First round: Beating the player of the Italian national team with the result of two clean rounds.
- Second round: Surpassed the British national team player in a match that extended to three strong rounds.
- Final: Beat the first rank in weight from the French national team with a result of two consecutive rounds, to be crowned with a well-deserved gold medal.
This achievement is a strong boost in the player’s international career, as 80 points have been added to his balance in the international ranking, which increases his chances of future competitions and qualifying for major championships.
It is worth mentioning that Al-Muhannad Al-Balushi had previously registered his name in the history of Omani sports, winning the first bronze medal in the history of the Sultanate at the Asian Cadets Championship held in Vietnam in 2022.
This achievement confirms the great efforts exerted by Majan Taekwondo Academy in cooperation with the Oman Taekwondo Federation, in refining the skills of players and qualifying them to compete at the highest international levels.
