Discovering Salalah: Fatma’s Enchanting Journey to Oman

In a recent interview with Omanspire, Fatma from Bahrain shared her captivating experiences from her first visit to the Sultanate of Oman, and her words paint a vivid picture of wonder and discovery. “I was excited to explore a new culture and immerse myself in the breathtaking nature here,” she exclaimed, reflecting on her time in Salalah.

Fatma described her arrival as stepping into a different world—one filled with lush greenery, majestic mountains, and serene tranquility. Her initial expectations were high, but the reality of Salalah exceeded them by far. The enchanting green plains, stunning waterfalls, and the mystical fog wrapping the mountains created an atmosphere of unparalleled beauty, setting Salalah apart from other destinations she had visited.

Among her most memorable experiences were her visits to Wadi Darbat and the traditional markets of Salalah. She also enjoyed swimming in Ain Hasheer, a natural spring with intriguing local legends warning against swimming due to supposed jinn. Undeterred, Fatma ventured in, proving the waters were safe, although she acknowledged the potential dangers of certain areas.

Fatma’s interactions with the Omani people left a lasting impression as well. She described the hospitality and warmth of the locals, who welcomed her with open arms, showering her with gifts and ensuring her comfort throughout her stay.

When it comes to cuisine, Fatma raved about the Omani barbecue seasoned with local spices and the unique combination of almonds with cactus. These flavors encapsulated her culinary journey and deepened her appreciation for Omani culture.

She shared a valuable insight: “I wish I had known about lesser-known places that are worth visiting, but I discovered some of them during the trip. My advice to anyone who wants to visit Oman for the first time is to be prepared to discover the natural beauty and rich culture, and not to forget to explore the rural areas, and to rent caravans to be closer to nature instead of staying in hotels.” Fatma ended her interview by expressing her desire to return: “I plan to visit Oman again in the future, and I would like to explore the mountainous areas and stay in oases and remote villages. Without specifying the period, but hopefully that will be soon.”

Fatma’s enchanting visit to Salalah not only showcased the region’s natural beauty but also highlighted the kindness of its people. Her heartfelt reflections remind us that travel is not just about the places we see, but the experiences and connections we make along the way.
