Finding Paradise in Oman: My Journey from a Small Californian Town to the Wonders of Wadi Al Hjeer

I was born and raised in northern California, right on the coast of the pacific ocean, in a very small town. I have always been self employed in the tourism industry but also was a pastry chef for 10 years. I moved to Oman in January 2023 to get my Divemaster certification and I am now working in the dive industry here. I've traveled to 50 countries and have so many more yet to see.

Discovering Oman: A Journey from a Small Californian Town

Growing up in a small coastal town in Northern California, I never imagined that I would one day find myself on the other side of the world, falling head over heels in love with a place called Oman. My life has been a unique blend of self-employment in the tourism industry and a decade-long career as a pastry chef. However, it was my deep-rooted passion for exploration that eventually led me to this breathtaking Middle Eastern country.

Discovering Oman: A Hidden Gem

As recently as March 2022, the name “Oman” had never crossed my mind. It wasn’t until a chance encounter with a British military man on a dive boat in Egypt that I learned about this hidden gem. His tales of Oman’s natural beauty, both above and below the water, left me intrigued and eager to explore. With plans to visit the Middle East in September, I embarked on a journey of discovery.

Exploring Oman Safely and Sustainably

For those eager to explore Oman in a similar fashion, I offer some advice:

Connect with the local community through social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube.
Conduct thorough research before your trip to make the most of your adventure.
Never hike alone; safety should always come first.
Respect and preserve Oman’s natural beauty by leaving no trace. Bring a bag to collect litter and help keep these beautiful places clean.
