On the 10th of Dhu Al-Hijjah from every hijri year, the Islamic world celebrates the second Eid in the Islamic calendar which comes to be the last ritual of the Haj. Below you will find the main things to be done during Eid with differences from every culture/area in Oman:
It all starts with Eid prayers early in the morning after sunrise. Everyone will be leaving home dressed well to go to the prayer. After the prayer comes the greetings part between the family, friends, and neighbors. Afterward, everyone goes back home and starts eating the important Omani dish during EID which is called “URSEYA”. It is a combination between rice and fresh meat.
Later on, the last important ritual of Eid Al Adha is animal slaughtering. The meat of the animal will be split into part to be cooked the same day, part to be given away to the charity or people in need and part to be frozen for the next day’s barbeque.
The other meal not to be missed during Eid is called “SHUWA” where they marinate a big amount of meat and fold it with banana leaves and store it in a bag that is made out of palm tree trunk to throw under the ground and take it the next day. The ground is filled with fired wood and to be covered immediately after throwing the bag and to be cooked by ground heat.
Lastly, kids get what makes them happy. Money is what all of them are happy to get and it’s called “Eideya”
