Oman Reaffirms Commitment to Combating Racism at New York Meeting
Participation in UN High-Level Meeting
New York, September 29, 2026 (ONA) — The Sultanate of Oman emphasized, during its participation in the high-level meeting commemorating the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, its commitment to international efforts to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance.
Oman also stressed the importance of safeguarding human dignity and promoting the values of equality and mutual respect, underscoring the need to translate international principles and commitments into tangible impacts in the lives of peoples and communities.
Omani Delegation
The Omani delegation was headed by His Excellency Sheikh Ambassador Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Qatbi, Head of the Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
National and International Initiatives
The Sultanate of Oman highlighted its well-established approach based on dialogue, understanding, and coexistence, as well as the national and international initiatives it has implemented. These include the “Message of Peace,” the “Human Fraternity Initiative,” and the “Muscat Plan of Action,” which was launched at the United Nations headquarters in June of this year.
The plan aims to strengthen the roles of traditional leaders and indigenous community leaders in addressing hate speech and incitement, preventing genocide and atrocity crimes, and contributing to mediation and peacebuilding.
Call for International Cooperation
In conclusion, Oman emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation, linking global commitments to local-level action, benefiting from knowledge and expertise rooted in communities, and enhancing youth participation.
It reaffirmed its determination to continue working with the United Nations and the international community toward a world where human dignity is protected, diversity is respected, and differences are transformed into opportunities for dialogue, cooperation, and peacebuilding.
