South Al Sharqiyah Deploys Municipal Digital Platforms and Accelerates AI Automation
The Supervisory Committee for Digital Transformation in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate has held its second annual executive meeting in the coastal wilayat of Sur. Chaired by H.E. Dr. Yahya bin Badr Al Maawali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, the council conducted a comprehensive operational review of digital public platforms developed internally by the governorate’s administration to modernize municipal governance, automate administrative workflows, and embed artificial intelligence across regional services.
The strategic session evaluated the real-world performance of four proprietary digital platforms: “Manarah” (knowledge and project tracking), “Rawasi” (institutional asset and municipal management), “Jahiz” (operational readiness and emergency logistics), and “Furas” (commercial permits and SME opportunity mapping). By developing tailored in-house digital solutions, the governorate has dramatically reduced software procurement cycles while addressing the unique geographic and maritime requirements of its five wilayats: Sur, Jalan Bani Bu Ali, Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, Al Kamil Wal Wafi, and the island of Masirah.
Citizen Impact and Administrative Decentralization
Addressing committee directors, Governor Dr. Yahya Al Maawali articulated an uncompromising performance standard prioritizing real, everyday improvements for citizens and local business enterprises.

The governorate’s digital operations team presented a detailed inventory of remaining administrative processes scheduled for end-to-end automation. Executive directives were issued to accelerate integration across all municipal departments, ensuring that commercial building permits, municipal renewals, and public health inspections transition entirely to paperless workflows.
Regional AI Adoption and Digital Proficiency Auditing
The committee examined the latest audit results of the governorate’s Digital Proficiency Index (تقييم الإجادة الرقمية), tracking compliance with national digital government standards established by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT). The assessment identified precise training interventions to upskill municipal engineers, field inspectors, and administrative directors in cloud collaboration, data security, and agile project delivery.
Furthermore, the committee formally endorsed a strategic proposal to establish an integrated “Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Program” tailored to South Al Sharqiyah. The initiative will deploy machine learning models to optimize municipal waste collection routes, analyze satellite imagery for urban planning along coastal zones, and automate citizen inquiry triage through intelligent virtual assistants.
