Omani Women’s Day: Rudain Al Toubi on Compassion and Nursing

For Rudain Al Toubi, an Omani nurse specialising in sports medicine, nursing is more than a profession; it is a humanitarian mission built on compassion, responsibility, and the desire to make a difference in people’s lives.

As Oman celebrates Omani Women’s Day, Rudain’s story highlights the dedication of Omani women working in healthcare and their contribution to the well-being of society.

Nursing Beyond Medical Care

Rudain chose nursing because she believes that even the smallest act of kindness can have a lasting impact. Whether easing a patient’s pain, offering reassurance, or supporting families during difficult times, she believes that quality care goes beyond medical treatment.

One experience in a surgical ward particularly reinforced this belief. She recalls a female patient suffering from severe pain who needed urgent medical attention. Despite complaints from other patients waiting to be seen, Rudain prioritised the woman’s condition and arranged for her to see the doctor promptly.

When the patient returned a week later for a post-surgery follow-up, she expressed deep appreciation for Rudain’s actions. The timely intervention may have helped prevent serious complications.

For Rudain, this experience highlighted the importance of patient advocacy, sound judgement, and putting patient safety first, even under pressure.

Balancing Compassion and Professional Growth

Although nursing can be physically and emotionally demanding, Rudain finds motivation in knowing that her work can improve someone’s day or bring comfort during moments of fear. She believes that a kind word, a reassuring smile, or simply being present can make a meaningful difference.

She also emphasises continuous learning, teamwork, and the importance of protecting healthcare professionals’ own well-being so they can continue caring for others.

A Message to Omani Women

For Rudain, being an Omani woman in healthcare is both a source of pride and a responsibility. She believes that celebrating Omani Women’s Day means recognising women’s achievements while creating opportunities for their growth, leadership, and development.

Her message to young Omani women is simple: believe in your abilities, invest in your education, and never stop learning. Nursing requires knowledge, patience, compassion, and strength, but it also offers the opportunity to change lives.

Rudain’s journey reminds us that the impact of Omani women is often found in everyday acts of courage, kindness, and dedication.
