Oman Strengthens Musandam Defense Following Drone Targeting

MUSCAT: Omani security forces are active in the northern governorate of Musandam following drone attacks on several local sites on Sunday. An official security source confirmed the incident, stating that the Sultanate is deploying defensive measures to secure the area and protect its residents.

The government issued a statement condemning the violation of its territory. Authorities have not disclosed the specific locations hit or the extent of any damage, but security patrols and monitoring systems have been reinforced across the peninsula. Musandam occupies a vital position overlooking the Strait of Hormuz, making its stability central to both Omani national security and international maritime trade.

The incident follows a sharp escalation in regional hostilities. Earlier in the day, commercial vessel transits in the Strait of Hormuz were disrupted after an attack on the container ship GFS Galaxy. The United States military responded with strikes on military sites across the Gulf. Subsequent regional exchanges involved drone and missile actions targeting multiple Gulf locations, including claims by Iranian forces regarding logistics facilities in the southern port of Duqm. Omani defense forces remain on high alert to prevent further incursions.

Muscat continues to coordinate with regional maritime security partners. The Ministry of Defense stated that Omani sovereignty remains absolute and that all necessary precautions are in place to secure land, sea, and air borders.
