Oman and the United States Discuss Developing Military Cooperation and Enhancing Mutual Defense Coordination Pathways

Joint Military Committee Meeting in Washington

The Omani–U.S. Joint Military Committee has reviewed existing areas of military cooperation between the two friendly nations and explored ways to enhance and develop them in pursuit of shared interests, during its 18th meeting held in Washington, D.C.

Delegations and Leadership

The Omani delegation was led by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Zaabi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense, who is currently on an official visit to the United States. The U.S. side was headed by Mr. Michael DiMino, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Middle East Affairs.

Advancing Defense Coordination

During the meeting, both sides discussed a number of agenda items, focusing on mechanisms to advance mutual defense coordination and strengthen collaborative frameworks.

Attendance of Senior Officials

The meeting was attended by His Excellency Talal bin Sulaiman Al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the United States, along with senior officers and officials from both the Omani and American sides.

Sideline Discussions and Bilateral Relations

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Secretary-General held discussions with several senior officials from the U.S. Departments of Defense and State, reviewing bilateral relations and exploring avenues to further enhance cooperation, as well as addressing issues of mutual interest between the two friendly nations.

Visit to Arizona

The visit also included a stop in the U.S. state of Arizona, where the Secretary-General met with state officials. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation within the framework of the existing partnership program between the Sultanate of Oman and the State of Arizona.
