In a moment where sorrow is intertwined with pride, Oman bids farewell to one of its most inspiring and courageous women,
Nadhira Al Harthy. She was not merely a mountain climber; she was a story of determination and perseverance,
a journey written among rocks and snow, driven by a will that knew no limits.
Nadhira was not born a champion in the eyes of the world; she became one through dedication, patience, and relentless effort.
She began her life as an educator, carrying within her a deep passion for adventure and exploration. Over time, that passion
transformed into a lifelong mission and a remarkable journey of achievements that placed Oman’s name among the highest peaks on Earth.
Her true journey began through endurance sports and physical challenges. She participated in long-distance running and gradually
entered the world of mountaineering, developing the skills and experience needed to face some of the most demanding environments
on the planet. With every challenge she overcame, her determination grew stronger, leading her to the defining achievement of her
career: reaching the summit of Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth, becoming the first Omani woman to accomplish
this historic feat.
Yet, Everest was not the end of her dream; it was only the beginning. Nadhira continued to pursue the world’s most challenging peaks,
including Ama Dablam, known for its technical difficulty, as well as other high-altitude mountains where oxygen levels
are low and risks are extreme. Every summit she reached was a testament to her courage, and every expedition reflected the spirit
of a person who refused to surrender.
At the end of her extraordinary journey came the tragedy that touched many hearts. Nadhira’s passing was confirmed at the end of
July 2026 following an avalanche accident while she was part of an international expedition attempting to climb
Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountain range, one of the world’s most dangerous high-altitude regions,
rising above 8,000 meters.
The powerful avalanche affected several climbers from different nationalities. Despite the harsh conditions, her body was later
recovered and transported by helicopter, bringing to an end the journey of a woman who faced the greatest challenges with courage
until her final moments.
Although she has left this world, her legacy remains alive. It lives in the memory of a nation proud of its daughter who carried
Oman’s name to the highest places, and in the hearts of all those inspired by her story of courage, ambition, and belief in the
power of determination.
