Mujahid Al Sarhani: Inspiring Inclusion Through Sports and Leadership
Muscat –
Oman continues to prioritize the empowerment of individuals with disabilities, fostering an inclusive environment that enables them to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society. Among the standout success stories is Mujahid bin Ishaq Al Sarhani, an Omani youth who has transformed his passion for sports into a global humanitarian mission.
Living with an intellectual disability, Al Sarhani has defied expectations by building an impressive journey that spans athletics, leadership, and international advocacy. His involvement with the Special Olympics began more than a decade ago, where he initially competed in badminton before excelling in tennis, earning multiple medals.
However, his ambitions extended beyond athletic achievement. Al Sarhani recognized the platform sports provided to advocate for inclusion and awareness. His appointment as a Global Messenger for Special Olympics Middle East and North Africa reflects his growing influence as a voice for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
His journey has not been without challenges. After completing grade nine, Al Sarhani faced obstacles in continuing his education. Through determination, he pursued adult education, completed high school, and later earned a Higher Diploma in Records and Archives Management from Middle East College in Oman.
On the international stage, Al Sarhani has represented Oman at numerous events, including leadership conferences and the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025 in Italy. In addition, he has contributed as a trainer in programs supporting individuals with severe intellectual disabilities.
Al Sarhani’s story underscores the importance of opportunity, support, and perseverance. He continues to develop his skills in public speaking and language to expand his global outreach and impact.
Looking forward, he envisions a future where people with intellectual disabilities are fully integrated into all aspects of life—education, employment, and sports—serving as active contributors to sustainable development and community growth.
His journey stands as a testament to the power of resilience and the transformative role of inclusion in building stronger, more diverse societies.
